My whole life, my mom has been the most important and influential person to me. She has been through the tough times and the best times of my life and I am evermore grateful to have such an supportive and beautiful individual in my life. My mom overcame barriers with her confidence and broke down stereotypes for men with her eager passion on learning and supporting our family. She has succeed at times but failed as well. My mom sacrificed so much so my brother and I can obtain an education and overall a wonderful life. I never came from a rich family but I am appreciative of what I have and cherish every moment with it. With this said, my theme for my Senior Exhibition is about women empowerment. Society has a base line of the idea of “beauty” and majority of the population doesn’t fit that norm that they cast into the community. Many individuals, women, are portrayed to be sex symbols and seen to be less than men because of historical differences in the past. Women are viewed as “lady like” and if breaking those gender norms would portray her as a “bitch” or “crazy”. So I am basing my Senior Exhibition on women empowerments to show what women feel on the inside when they are restricted from society to do something that isn’t “women” like. The artist who I was deeply inspired by is Georgia O’Keeffe because of her impact on Modern Art and how she established her own art in which inspires artists till this day. Another artist that has inspired me to pursue the theme is Judy Chicago.
